Happy Valentine’s Day, 2016, from The Best American Poetry 2015, guest editor, Sherman Alexie, series editor, David Lehman, and originally from Burrow Press Review.

from Cedars of Lebanon / by Sherman Alexie

You knock at the door.
Break several cedar branches

and dust off the snow.
Bring in seven for the bedroom,

seven for the fireplace,
then rest your head on my chest–

even bare
branches can make a kind of summer.
